Last year's thoughts on early-ish S3.

Not a whole lot to say about these three eps, because they're pretty much continuing apace with what's been going on.

BDaBR: Introduces Bela. Bela, in hindsight, is something of a problematic character. She sold her soul, and at the end of the season, we discover that if she kills Sam (and Dean), she's out of the deal. I believe a case can be made for this being the reason she arranged to cross paths with the Brothers Winchester in the first place and targeted John's lock-up stash for her business dealings. But here's the thing: if Sam is supposed to be Lucifer's meat suit, how then does it benefit Lilith to have him dead? Now, if she wants to be top banana, it makes sense, but then when breaking the final seal, she goads Sam into action and gets herself killed. She, like, has a last minute change of heart? Bzuh?

But anyway, back to Bela. She could have been an interesting character. She presented us with a different aspect of the hunting world, and she could have become an adversarial informant of some sort--well, you know, except for the part about shooting Sam and claiming she can aim, she only grazed him, when she knew his luck was sour and it wouldn't matter how well she aimed, she could still kill him. Or the, you know, interfering with the whole saving people/hunting things deal-y. But I think she could have been a useful character if she'd been utilized better.

Anyway, BDaBR has some delightful stuff: "I lost my shoe" *hugs Sam*; "I'm Batman," and a cursed trinket that stems from common superstition. Good stuff there.

Sin City: Again, not much to say, so I'll say this: Jensen was looking really good in this season. I don't know what it is, because he always looks good (well, 99.9% of the time), but dang.

So in this one we get a bit of background on things Dean did what Sam was at Stanford (the succubus in Canarsie), and working a case with Richie. And I must admit, Richie kind of cracks me up.

We get that Dean wants to believe in God. *hugs Dean*

We get a little more background on the demon army thing.

Plus, we get Don S. Davis (RIP) in a guest spot.

Bedtime Stories: I gotta admit, I kinda like this ep. It's a decent stand-alone case, with angst of the deal sprinkled in. And the little girl reminds me in facial features of my cousin's daughter at that age.

We get Sam, desperate to save Dean, and Dean, knowing the risk too great, having none of it. Determined Sam and stoic Dean.

Of course, it kind of makes me want to slap both of them, because Sam is impatient and goes off half cocked, and Dean has the underlying sense of not being worth the risk. (I think Sam's impatience will be a separate entry.)

Also, something that jumped out at me: When the CRD (the Sandy!CRD) talks about the demon who holds the contract, she speaks of said demon as "he." We find out later, of course, that Lilith holds the contract. So here's the question: Did Crowley (as head of the CRDs, as I understand it) gift Dean's contract to Lilith? And to what purpose? Hm . . . .

I figured that at this point her goal *is* to be "top banana."

I can totally go along with Lilith trying to become Grand Empress Pubah at this point in the story. That's what it felt like as soon as she showed up, that's the exposition we get from Casey and later Ruby. I don't think Lilith realized her role in the seal breaking until she tried to trap Sam in S4, at which point she still tried to wiggle out of the sitch.

But considering that she was the first demon . . . there's got to be some sort of backstabbing back story going on there with her and Lucifer. Yeah? Maybe? Who knows.

Then there's Ruby. How long was she conniving and scheming to get Sam in the right (WRONG) place at the right (WRONG) time. Was she actually in communication with Lucifer? Was she Azazel's back-up plan? Was she a free agent acting on her own?

Questions, questions!
