It's Thursday!
May. 20th, 2010 02:55 pmHey. Don't look at me funny like that. Thursday is usually the end of my work week. And considering that I worked both Friday and Saturday last week (and was dealing with a little bit of depression), I'm delighted that I'm almost outta here for the weekend!
I might post later about the "fannish state of me," but for now, I've only got one thing to comment on.
I've read here and there, and been told by others who read here and there, and there seems to be this misconception regarding Lisa as Dean's "one true love." Apparently, a lot of fans are gearing up to hate that idea, because Lisa has never been Dean's "one true love" before, and to make it so now would be wrong, wrong, wrong. Or something . . .
The thing is, not everyone falls in MADLY-PASSIONATE-OMG-YOU-COMPLETE-ME love. Some couples love each other in a much more . . . subtle . . . manner than that. Some couples start out as friends and decide to make it permanent (so to speak). Some people fall MADLY-PASSIONATELY-IN-LOVE, and the friendship comes later. True love is being there for each other, helping each other through the rough times, being there to share the good times. It's the little things.
Do I think Dean is "in love" with Lisa? No, not really. I think he's been "in love with" the idea Lisa represents. But do I think he genuinely cares about Lisa as a person? Yeah, I do. And I think he's cared about her like that ever since she became more to him than a weekend fling. Given the time and nurturing of each other, I think they could actually love each other.
And I personally would really dislike for Dean to become an established member of the household and then just up and ditch Lisa and Ben without so much as a backward glance or by your leave. That's not the Dean I know. The Dean I know, when he cares for someone, he genuinely cares for them. He is easily hurt by them and for them. And even if Dean and Lisa didn't fall head over heels in love for each other, I think they might wake up one day and realize, hey, I actually love this person. And they'd each be reluctant to verbalize it because, wow, when did that happen?
I have no idea what they're going to do with the Dean/Lisa situation in S6. I've mentioned that it could easily be Harvelle-esque, if that's the direction the writers decide to take it. But whatever they do, I hope they don't leave a sour taste in my mouth by reducing the relationship to nothing more than them having used each other. If they part (and I kind of expect them to), I want it to be on good and mutual terms.
Okay, I'm outta here.
Back later.
Maybe.

I wish this was the end of my work week. Gotta work part of the weekend, too. *pouts*

Date: 2010-05-20 08:57 pm (UTC)I think it would be cool if Dean and Lisa kinda went there with The Sex, but decided to be just friends. Close friends. Who occasionally get nekkid. And sweaty. On screen. Just kidding.
Not really.

Date: 2010-05-20 09:03 pm (UTC)I'm sorry. I was distracted. Nekkid, did you say? With teh sweaty sexin'? I would watch THAT show.
Meanwhile, where is our daily pictures of Jensen and Danneel? I feel rather deprived.

Date: 2010-05-20 09:12 pm (UTC)There's just so much potential for Dean!growth. It's kinda making my toes curl. He could be relationship!Dean, or not. He could be legitimate job!Dean, or not. He could be semi-broken/not emotionally empty!Dean, or not. He could be drunken stupor/non AA attending!Dean, or not. So many possibilities. And Sam! Can't wait to see.
Maybe J/D finally took off for that honeymoon. I was just thinking about them while walking thru the airport the other day. There was a booth selling Rosetta Stones. Danneel said Jensen got her one on Italian for Christmas, but she couldn't go on the trip as planned due to work commitments. Maybe they went there.

Date: 2010-05-20 09:36 pm (UTC)I have mental pictures of J&D strolling hand in hand on a beach somewhere at sunset. But Italy, sitting on a terrace with a drink, watching the sun go down? That would work too.

Enough wasted rambling. Must hit the gym and possibly walk the pooches.

Date: 2010-05-20 09:17 pm (UTC)The "friends with benefits" thing has never really sat well with me. I don't know if I can explain adequately why. It seems rife with landmines, and very problematic.
I would not at all be adverse to one of those scenes you're talking about, though. Because they're always shot so beautifully. The lighting and the way the scenes are choreographed and shot and all, and the soundtracks . . . yeah. That's it. Jensen taking off his shirt has nothing to do with it. Honest. >.>

Date: 2010-05-20 09:25 pm (UTC)The sweaty/nekkid part? Well... It's Jensen! My brain goes on autopilot about some things. *clears throat*

Date: 2010-05-20 10:08 pm (UTC)While I could see that happening with Dean and Lisa, I can also see that after a time - being reasonable adults (yes, such things exist) they could also see, as Cassie did that there's one thing they're good at (in this case caring about Ben - not necessarily sex) but the other stuff, not so much - and they part on amiable terms. This is not to say Dean vanishes from thier lives because you're right, that's not Dean, but things get put at arms length.
*sigh* I'm afraid that's probably the least likely scenario.

Date: 2010-05-21 11:30 am (UTC)I'm kind of tickled by the idea of role reversal, though, with Dean being the settled one and Sam becoming the "wild child."
As I've said before, this will be a new show that just happens to star the same actors. Right now, I'm feeling kind of optimistic.
