Okay, so tonight I finished converting the third scene of my story. I've also come to what I consider the end of Act I. Fifteen pages (give or take). Now comes the part that has been perplexing me for months. My characters are on their way so see a play, and I don't know what play they're going to see. It needs to be something that's in public domain (Shakespeare would be good), something that has a really good role for a man in his mid-30s to early-40s.

I also need to start researching tourist and residential information for Vancouver. Help? Suggestions?

Most big cities have a Web site now to promote tourism, or if not, you can write/call the city government for tourist brochures and other information. That's how writers did it old-school, before the 'Net. Also, if you're on any writer forums, ask if anybody lives there and will answer questions.

Good to see you making progress. Keep on!

:-) Yep. That's how I did it when the road trip was originally set in Montreal. *All* my research was 'Net research: maps, neighborhoods, activities, tourist attractions . . . everything. From what I researched, my characters had a jam-packed trip scheduled, and given where I've placed them in the US, it was a road trip.

*sigh* Then I ran into things that made Montreal . . . not as practical given the direction the story takes, and since Vancouver serves as a great backdrop for what I'm doing, I decided to relocate.

And now I have to start over with the research. :-/

you can write/call the city government for tourist brochures and other information.

I've also considered hitting AAA for tourist brochures. I know we got Niagara Falls stuff from them (Canada has the better view, imo), and they had info that was theirs, but was, like, co-produced with the CAA. A very good suggestion.

Bwah! I remember those days. Books, periodicals, card catalogs . . . Those were the days. :-) The 'Net has made me incredibly lazy that way.

if you're on any writer forums, ask if anybody lives there and will answer questions.

If you (or anyone) have any suggestions for good writer forums, I'm open to such. :-) LJ is so FREAKINGLY huge, and I'm somewhat hesitant to just jump into any ol' forum and start yakking.

Good to see you making progress. Keep on!

Thanks! That's about all I'm doing right now--keepin' on keepin' on. But sometimes that's what you have to do between moments of brilliance, right? *g*

Thanks for the suggestions. And the encouragement! I really appreciate it.
