Is it too early to toss Christmas ideas out into cyberspace?

For Christmas, I'm asking Santa for:

Another year of LJ.

More icon space.

A Winchester Bros. calendar or a Dean Winchester calendar. (Found here. Click on "Supernatural.")

A new can opener (which I might break down and buy for myself before Christmas. A hand can opener is fine. It doesn't have to be anything fancy)

And as a totally unconnected aside, check out who the guests will be at the next Xena convention.
Gina Torres!
Hudson Leick!
And an actor who was on Dark Angel, and worked on an ep that Jensen was in (which is the only reason it caught my eye).
Oh, and Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor. Wasn't Lucy in the new BSG?

I wandered over to the page because of something Jensen said at the recent convention--that just because SPN ends doesn't mean that the SPN cons have to end. I just wanted to see who was still doing cons for their old shows. Turns out quite a few are. Huh.

The Stargate franchise still draws many to conventions! Some actors are much more amendable to still continuing than others.

For me -- I wish Santa would give us a "direct to DVD" movie of SPN when it ends!! Big budget

Oh, I know Stargate still has conventions. But they still have a TV presence, yes?

Heck, Star Trek still has conventions, but they also have re-incarnated umpteen bajillion times.

I chose Xena because to my knowledge (and I haven't followed that show since way, way long ago), the end of that show was the end of that show. It was a spin-off of Hercules, but had no spin-offs of it's own. It's a closed book, so to speak. Kind of how I see SPN being when it's finished its run.

But Jensen made me kinda warm and fuzzy inside when his first response to the question was, "Well, this [indicating the con and the audience] doesn't have to end." Like maybe overall the good is outweighing the crazy and he enjoys doing cons. *shrug* Just me, but I was a little tickled by it. Not that I'll ever get to attend one.

But the Stargate people who draw the crowds are the "oldies" -- the SG1 and SGA actors.

It would be nice to have them at least a year or two after. But if the "boys" are busy doing other things (which would be nice) - they may not.

I thought it was nice too.. I was surprised. I would have thought the crazy women would be too much for him (being so private). Maybe the sane are outnumbering the crazies!!

There's still a Dark Shadows convention every year, and I think that went off the air in 1969.

With actors in attendance? Does the con organization make any money?

I can't imagine that Creation would continue doing these conventions of they weren't financially worth their while. But I was tickled to hear Jensen indicate that he might be open to continuing to do conventions even after SPN has finished its run. It kinda tells me that the good has outweighed the crazy for him, ya know?

Just made me feel kind of good to hear him say that. *shrug*

Yes, I believe there are actor guests every year, but they're lower-tier. As to whether the organizers make any money, I couldn't begin to guess. It's fan-run, and I know they have a charity auction every year, so I imagine there's a little bit of profit for the charity.

If I were in Jensen's place, I'd bite my tongue and put up with a generous dollop of crazy to make $50,000 (at a guess) for a couple days' "work." Once SPN ends, when he's in between jobs, that $50,000 is going to look mighty attractive.

Re: fan-run cons . . . I've been to a couple cons that I consider "fan run," and I don't recall them being near the cost of a Creation con. In a couple cases, that was sort of reflected in the experience (lots of fan drama behind the organizational scenes). But you probably know exactly what I'm talking about.

Oh, there's no doubt that the money is definitely an attractive incentive. He said a couple of things at the recent con that, if I'm reading between the lines correctly, indicates that he appreciates having the steady income that SPN provides and is looking toward the possibility that this will be the last season. But back when the crazy was really crazy (this recent con seemed delightfully crazy-free), part of me was just relishing the idea that when SPN was finished, he wouldn't "have" to subject himself to that particular brand of crazy anymore. Because while, yeah, the money is attractive, and it's only 1 day of work, I imagine he does have a point at which he'd say enough is enough. I'm just kinda glad (and impressed) that he's put up with things this far.

Ya know?

It bums me out to think of the boyz continuing on with the cons for more than a year after the finale, especially if they aren't working. If they are working and seem in pretty good shape, career wise, then I'd be okay with it. I just find it depressing seeing actors clinging to something they did years and years ago just to make the bucks.

I admit this is backwards thinking since if they WERE working, they wouldn't need the income as much, and if they weren't, you'd think I'd be happy to see them earn a few bucks to feed the massive amount of pretteh children they both are gonna have.
