First, to be perfectly clear: I do not mean this to be offensive or insulting in any way. Given that the only language I speak with any proficiency is my native language, English (and American English at that--Mid-Western American English, if you want to get really specific), I tip my proverbial hat to those who can read/write and/or speak a second language with any sort of fluency.

It must be very difficult/frustrating/challenging at times to be an active part of an active fandom the source material for which is not in one's native tongue. I mean, I know I miss a lot of in-jokes in British properties like Dr. Who simply because I don't have a British point of reference for the more obscure (to me) references. Geo, being much more in tune with such things, often has to explain things to me. (Heck, he often has to explain the classic rock references in SPN because I don't have t touchstone for all of them, either.) But to be an active member of an active fandom--and going to conventions where the actors don't speak your language, and you only rudimentarily understand theirs--must be a challenge.

Here's what brings this up: I was watching the following video and became very confused. The text that the vid-maker includes as sort of a "synopsis" of what's going on says that Jared and Jensen assisted the bride who fell at a wedding.

But that's not what Jensen says at all. Or am I missing something? Is it maybe the fact that the woman was apparently carrying flowers that leads to the supposition that it was the bride?

The vid-maker of this particular vid gets a little carried away with the "production value" of the vid. Lots of music and graphics and such. But it's still work a look-see simply for the clarity of vid and audio quality, and the inclusion of little tidbits that I haven't seen show up in other clips from the con. Jensen's portion starts at the 1:50 mark.

This next vid is also worth a look-see for the tidbits that didn't make it into any other clip I've seen. Same vid-maker. Jensen's portion starts at the 1:20 mark.

Yeah...somebody did get a TAD carried away with their Moviemaker effects, didn't they? Yipes. But the sound quality's pretty good, and the focus is good, and the screaming from the audience is only intrusive at a couple of points. (Somebody posted a vid from Chris Kane's birthday concert the other day, and there's somebody alongside the camera screaming through the whole thing. Did I want to slap her unconscious? Ohmyyes.)

The screaming on that vid was earth shattering. I think it was the vidder herself doing the screaming. Either way, slapping her unconscious would have worked.

OT. I'm excited for the Harpers Island finale. I'm sure you've already spoiled yourself for the killer.

Who, me? Spoiled?

(That would be a yes.)

I think folks might have been rather startled that I responded to the post containing that vid with, "I want to slap that person silly." Because I think you're supposed to respond to ANY vid posting with, "OMG!!!! OMG!!!! That's so awesomely amazingly awesome I peed myself!!!! OMG!!!!" But MAN, I'm tired of trying to get through 8 or 10 minutes of a vid gritting my teeth about the screaming while I try to figure out what the boys are saying (or in that case, singing). I was blown right out of my socks by the quality of the sample bit from the official Aussie con DVD - but I think it's only formatted for them. It's tough to find good vids, I tell ya. *goes off to whine, and write some more*

I was wondering if it was the vidder herself, and thought that was pretty stupid if it was. One shout of support is quite sufficient, regardless.

I linked to that vid last week, and yeah, the screamer is extremely annoying. After a few re-watches, though, I get pretty good about filtering past that to focus on Jensen & Co.

Still, how can you enjoy the performance if you're constantly screaming?
