For S5, may I please have a flashback ep that delves into one of Dean's solo hunts? Canonically, we only know of the one in New Orleans just prior to the Pilot. But, you know, Sam was gone anywhere from 2 to 4 years (depending on which episode you reference), so there's plenty of wiggle room there.

Ideally, Jensen would still play Dean, but I understand that this could be problematic because A) Jensen has changed somewhat from young Dean to now (not to the extent that Jared has matured--oy!--but still, I can understand where Jensen might not be able to play his younger self. Otoh, Jensen is an amazing actor, so I wouldn't really put it past him); and B) I know Jensen appreciates the time off that a flashback ep involving Young!Dean provides. So, ya know, I understand.

Still, it is a topic that has been richly explored in fic, and I know how you love servicing the fans, right?

Oh, and speaking of New Orleans, if you could do an ep (with current Sam and Dean, i.e., Jared and Jensen) set in New Orleans, preferably during Mardi Gras, that would be awesome.

In hopeful expectation,
Me

We know of one other hunt that seems to have been a solo hunt. The one where he met Richie, the hunter who got killed in Sin City last season. It doesn't sound like a hunt John was on. I believe that hunt took place in New York City, maybe Queens, but I'm not sure.

Oh! Good call! Because that's got a line that always cracks me up: the one about the succubus from Canarsie. (Which is part of Brooklyn.) Yes, yes.

Kripke? Are you paying attention?

That's it. Canarsie. I couldn't remember, I just remembered it was somewhere in the 5 boroughs. :) Thanks.

And I loved the idea of Dean being on a hunt and just picking up this stray hunter. It's one of those things where even though Richie was something of a mook, the point is Dean was out there, on a hunt, did his job and made a friend.

Not quite making myself clear but basically I'm just saying it shows Dean's a pretty amazing guy in his own right. :)

No, no. I get you. I really liked that, too. That we got this little glimpse of Dean's life when he was hunting on his own.

Actually, that right there could make a good flashback ep. *nods*

I never took that to be a solo hunt. I thought he just said that Sam had left. Did he say that John wasn't there? Either way, I loved Richie and the succubus story.

Flashbacks are always welcome. I'd love one with John and Bobby and the shotgun. I'd say a flashback to the fight that sent Sam away, but I'd hate to waste JDM on guest actors.

I understood it to be a solo hunt because the banter between Dean and Richie was who saved whom, with no mention of "How's your dad?" or anything like that.

So the way I read it, Sam was at Stanford, and John was elsewhere while Dean was hunting a succubus in Canarsie. Where he saved Richie's hide (and maybe Richie saved Dean's hide, too.)

Either way, I loved the glimpse into Dean's hunting without Sam. That there's this whole period of time for Sam to discover when Dean was on his own, either solo, or depending on whoever was around to watch his back.

I love the idea. But it must be Jensen who'd play Dean at the time. Jensen didn't change that much (did you see pics from the last con? In RL Jensen looks like he's 25 years old). Plus i don't want that 'something' that played Dean in 413 ruin another ep, you know. (and i'm sorry if you liked young!Dean in 413 but for me it was total disaster).

The guy who played Dean in 4.13 . . . I don't think it was the actor per se, but I kind of wonder how much research he did before he stepped in front of the camera. I mean, it's kind of obvious that Colin Ford took a look at some eps and was mimicking Jared in a lot of ways (especially in the Christmas ep). And Mitch Pileggi definitely took a look at Fredric Lehne's performance for YED. I didn't hate the guy, that played young!Dean, and the fact that he's no Jensen isn't really something that can be remedied. (After all, there's only one Jensen. As it should be.) :-) But, yeah, he wasn't really anything to write home about.

Whether or not Jensen should play younger Dean . . . Do I think he could do it? Without a doubt. Would I prefer it? Of course. Would I understand if they found it problematic or if Jensen wanted some time off? Yep.

(Incidentally, I loved his response as to whether or not he prefers the brother to work together or to be in conflict. He said that for story reasons, he likes the brothers to be together, but on a personal level, if the brothers aren't working together, then it means that he and Jared get some time off. So he's torn. Hee!)

I'd say none. I saw Colin and i don't know how he prepared for the role of young Sam but no doubt it was Sam. I saw Mitch and there was no dount it's YED. It's obvious. With young Dean? It was awful 'something'. And i know, there's one and only Jensen in the world but the thing is that guy shouldn't play Jensen he should play young Dean basing his acting on previous knowledge he (and we as viewers) already had from Jensen. It's not even mimicking thing, it's being realistic. And that guy wasn't. At all :(

As for Jensen to play young!Dean i was hoping he'd do it in 413 but they cats the other one and while i can see their reasons i'd prefer for 413 to have no young Dean at all than to have 'that'. But i digress, i mean that Jensen was capable of playing Dean at 18th so he def capable of playing him at 22-26. Again :)
And i see your point with time off (and i like that line too and how he said it) but as a fan and a viewer i'd like to have Jensen's Dean on screen as much as possible, you kow :)
