Because
leelust asked what the heck I was talking about when I mentioned Jensen's eye make-up in OtHoaP (that looks kinda like the name of an Egyptian pharaoh, doesn't it?), I've selected a few stills that I think best demonstrate what I'm talking about.
First, we have Dean before he goes into the interrogation room:

Then we have him in the room interrogating Alistair. I noticed that both actors have had their eyes lined on the inside rim of their lashes, though I find the effect to be more pronounced with Jensen because he has such amazing eyes to begin with:

The dark scenes seem to be color corrected to the green, so everything in the dark scenes has a green cast to it. The eye shadow was more pronounced in my low-def-broadcast-on-a-hi-def-TV, but hopefully you can see what I'm talking about.
Before the interrogation:

During the interrogation, whatever make-up or shadow they used highlights his eyes, I think. I found it to be most pronounced in the shots where we focus on Dean's reactions to Alistair's taunting:

Then we have the hospital eye make-up, where the liner rims his lids in red to give him a tired, beaten look:

I've also noticed a trend throughout recent eps of smudging just a little bit of liner beneath his lower lashes. Again, this gives him a tired, worn look as Dean grows more and more weary of the weight on his shoulders.
I also noticed toward the end of the interrogation, when he's processing what Alistair has told him about the first seal, that it looks like Jensen's nose is red (recent sunburn? A cold?), though I have no explanation for this other than the way the lighting is hitting him and the poor picture quality of our low-def broadcast.
So. I hope this answers your questions, Leelust. :-) Because, yeah, once I got past the "Ooh, interesting what they did with his make-up" kind of thing, yeah, I was all amazed and stuff with his performance.
Btw, all the caps came from Oxoniensis.

Date: 2009-03-24 04:39 pm (UTC)I think they filmed this episode around the time Jensen's grandmother died so if his nose was red it's possible he was crying. :( Poor guy.

Date: 2009-03-24 04:53 pm (UTC)With Jared, if I did noticed it, it wasn't as strikingly memorable as I found it here. Of course, now I'll be looking for it. *eyeroll* :-)
Crying as an explanation for the reddish nose makes sense. (*offers Jensen hugs*) I couldn't figure out why it would just be his nose, you know? And apparently it's just me noticing anyway. I'm weird like that.
I think one of the worst cases of make-up gone awry that I've seen on TV was in an early ep of The Sentinel, wherein the make-up folks went a little crazy with the blush and eyeliner and possibly even lips on Garett Maggart. Really, really distracting.

Date: 2009-03-25 09:13 am (UTC)I think i need to calibrate my color scheme because i hardly can notice anithing you've pointed out. I can only see it *kinda* in the next to the last pic. The same effect was on him in 103 (or it was in 104) i believe when people talked about too much make up but then in close inspection they decided that there was no make up but special filters (sorry, it was a long time ago hence no link). I mean Jensen's eyelashes are so thick in some lights they look like they were lined.
I don't say you're wrong i just wonder if could it be a filter and not make up?
*whispers* because on the second pic i can't see anything you were talknig about*

Date: 2009-03-25 10:33 am (UTC)It's funny, because of all the pics I posted, I find the most dramatic difference to be between the first and second pictures. I went back and forth between whether or not it was his thick lashes I was seeing, but when I saw the same effect on the actor playing Alistair, I decided it was make-up for the effect of the scene. They put a thin line of black eyeliner on the inside edge of his eyelashes (closest to his eye, as opposed to underneath the lashes).
I wish the pics had posted bigger. They certainly saved bigger on my computer, but I don't know how to change them in my post. :-/
I also tend to notice when the actors have had facial blemishes covered with make-up, and I often kind of envy the skill with which the make-up artist can cover said blemishes, with airbrushing or whatever.
If you can point me toward the S1 scenes where make-up was the topic of conversation (you don't have to find the actual conversations, but I'd like to take a look at the screen caps), I'd be interested. I don't recall the boys' make-up calling attention to itself like it does here.
