Once again, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Christmas was rather quiet this year. To be honest, we hadn't expected to still be here this year. I hostessed Christmas last year, thinking it would have been our last before the move. But this is the government we're talking about, so we're still here in this house.

Christmas Eve services, both the Sunday morning and the evening candlelight, were very full. Our new church (which Izhilzha saw before the walls went up) is now done to the point where we've moved into the facility. Its design is remarkably similar to the Performing Arts Center where I work. In fact, when I was helping unload stuff, and someone told me, "Take that to the gym," and I said, "How do I get there," and they said, "We're a big circle," I said, "Don't even use that line on me. I tell people that all the time at work." *g* Well, I'm not surprised. The architect came to the PAC one day. I gave him a tour, and he said he was working on designs for a new church building. I said, "Oh? Which church?" He said, "First Christian Church." I said, "Oh! That's my church!" So I'm not surprised by the similarities. I actually find them rather amusing.

Being former balcony people (we sat in the balcony at the old building), Geo and I and our fams now have to find a new place to sit. In fact, another couple who sat in the balcony overheard Geo and me talking, and they said they used to sit in the balcony, too. Having been displaced, we all were sitting up front of the new auditorium. :-) Those people who sat on the floor level in the old building, I noticed, sat in approximately the same spot in the new facility. Ha! And I overheard a couple of men talking, one of whom was telling the other, "Be careful where you sit. This will determine your seat for the rest of your life." Isn't it funny how people seem to have their "assigned seats" in church? Well, we're going to try someplace different next week, because I'm really kind of picky about that sort of thing (just ask anyone who has seen me order theater tickets).

The facility is lovely, and *very* modern. It will take some getting used to.

We spent Eve afternoon with Geo's fam. My in-laws gave me a hand blender with nifty attachments. Yay!

Candle light service was standing room only. The auditorium seats about 1300, and we had people lined up along the walls. Since the floor isn't raked (there's no slant like in a theater), I couldn't really see everyone. It was a mass of humanity, and we (fam and I) were sitting toward the back. Still it was nice to see all the people.

After the evening service, my fam came over to the house for a nosh. My bro and sis-in-law brought ice wine (Yum!), my mom brought chicken casserole, and I made curry bread. I also shared with them the Tonic Sol-Fa Christmas concert that we Tivoed off of PBS. (More on Tonic Sol-Fa in a different post. HIGHLY recommend.)

Christmas Day was wet and gray and rather subdued. Geo and I exchanged gifts; I gave him Dr. Who Season 1 (the 9th Doctor), and he gave me a Senseo coffee maker. It will take some practice, I think, to get the technique down, but it's a nifty device. We had fun playing with it.

Lunch at my mom and dad's, with bro and sis-in-law. Then we exchanged gifts. I begged off my cousin's do, as my back was hurting, and cousin from Columbus (actually my second cousin once removed, if you want to get technical) stopped by on her way back to school, so I got to see her.

Then Geo and I came home and watched Dr. Who. Yay!

Thank you very much, [livejournal.com profile] scionofgrace for the lovely card. :-) And thanks to [livejournal.com profile] izhilzha for the lemon verbena soap and the wonderful Island Vanilla hand cream. They smell wonderful. And thank you both for the touching Christmas meditations. Thank you.
