What fun! Hee!

Dean finds the clue!

Dean does like the early Trek movies, doesn't he. Bwah!

Canon confirmation that Dean likes Eastwood movies. (And John Wayne movies. And old movies in general, especially Westerns.)

Going native: Oh, Dean.

Elkins!

Cas, what are you doing? *flail*

Yay the phoenix isn't completely evil!

Deadwood. Bwah!

Pony Express! *flaility flail*

The only part that bothered me is making Dean the comic relief when it's not particularly fitting. Possibly because it seems a scooch OOC after this season. It just didn't sit totally right with me. It just seems like a bit of character regression. Still, he was the competent leader of this expedition in spite of that, so yay.

And I'll let the peeve slide because:

Best part of the ep: hopeful ending! We havin't had one of those that made me happy like this in . . . forever. "We take the fight to her." Reminiscent of John at the end of "Dead Man's Blood."

Yay, Show!

Hey, those writers like that kind of humor so they always write it for Dean especially so i handwaved it and enjoyed the rest of the ep.

Yes, and Jensen likes to play that kind of humor, so I usually go along with it. This time, upon first viewing, it seemed a little bit forced. I might change my mind upon further viewing, and it wasn't enough to detract from the ep as a whole.

And I was so tickled with the way they wove everything together.

And seeing Dean in a MacIntosh duster and cowboy hat. So, you know, that' was fantastic. No Jensen on horseback, but I don't think Dean would have been a particularly good rider anyway.

I was listening to the Winchesters Brothers podcast after the ep last night, and Guy Bee said Jensen would go riding with the horse ranglers every day during the lunch break. He got his horsey on!

I am loving that there is so much love for this ep. I was a little afraid that it wouldn't justice to all the hype for this ep but it totally did, yay!! :-)

It looks like the season is picking up steam and it will be a pretty wild ride from here on out.

I'm trying not to have any expectations, but overall, so far, so good.

I LOVED the episode! Deb and I watched it again last night in the hotel, and we guffawed our way through it all over again. SO much fun - and I didn't see it as forcing Dean into being comic relief. Rather, I took it as little boy/uberfangeek Dean being thrust into his ultimate fantasy situation, and letting his silly side bloom. It didn't strike a wrong note for me at all. The only bit I didn't care for was Rachel, but they killed her, so I'm content.

Oh, I was totally amused by Dean getting his Western fangeek on. Sammy was into magic; apparently Dean was into westerns. I guess I just felt kind of embarrassed for him every time one of his conceptions was destroyed, he was like a little kid who'd had a toy snatched away. It was very S1 Dean, and . . . I guess I just feel like he's grown beyond that. Or something. And the longer it went on, the more sorry I felt for him. (Though, Dean? You should totally know that saloon girls were not the healthiest of people.) It was funny, but at the same time, I felt bad for him. I don't know. It's hard for me to explain.

That's not to say I didn't thoroughly enjoy the ep. The rest of it was great fun, and I liked the way they tide things together. So, you know. It was a minor bump in the road in an otherwise enjoyable ride.

As for Rachel, what little I'd heard of her (Castiel gets an ally, a lieutenant), I was expecting her to be someone. I was very surprised that they introduced her and killed her off in the same ep. Why mention her at all at ComicCon if she's a one-shot bit player?
