SPN Trivia - Dean's leather jacket

Pilot ep: The first time we see Dean wearing the leather jacket is after he cleans up--in John's room--after the dive off of the bridge. The black canvas jacket he's been wearing up until then is (presumably) ruined, and we see Dean leave the room wearing the leather coat.

So. Dean swiped John's jacket when he and Sam were investigating the room.

I love tidbits like that!

Yes, I think you're right. Which could take us a couple different directions:

1) Dean has long been in the habit of swiping John's leather coat whenever it's just lying around to be swiped.

2) The leather coat in the Pilot actually is Dean's, and he or Sam brought it in from the car when they went to get Dean clean clothes. Because where Dean picks it up from (hanging on the wicker shelving), it's not there when they first enter the room.

Dean *does* say in DALDOM that the coat used to be Dad's. So it's down to a question of, did John give it to him outright, or get so tired of Dean filching it that he surrendered and said, "OK, you can have it"?

I kind of like the idea that John left the coat in the room, and Dean swiped it (again). A subconscious way of staying connected to John, since Dean hadn't seen his dad in three weeks, has no idea where he is, and the only recent communication was an EVP-laden v-mail, in which John tells Dean, "We're all in danger."

(Yeah, I never caught that before, either. Rediscovery is so much fun!)

I didn't actually notice until he picked up the leather coat, and I kind of went, "Hey! This is the first time we see the leather!"

It seems like I read somewhere that it is John's jacket. S1 Companion book? In After School Special it really hangs on him, which is smart since Dean has filled out a lot since then.

I don't know about the S1 Companion, but dream!Dean says it in DaLDoM. *nods*
