Oh, Dean has been very consistent in regards to Amy/Kate/Benny. Where he's showing a harder edge, where his conscience and compassion is being suppressed or he's looking at things in terms of collateral damage, is with Mama Tran. Back in the day, when he realized that "there's a girl in there" when they were torturing Demon!Meg, he was visibly distraught. Now, even though he'd hate himself for killing Ms. Tran, he's totally willing to do it, sublimating whatever emotions he might have personally in favor of the job. For good or for ill, that's the kind of moral ambiguity that comes in war. Yeah?
