And we're off . . .
The New Year, 2012 (which I pronounce "twenty-twelve," as opposed to "two thousand . . . " because I have to make the change sometime) is off and running.
I didn't make a 2011 (which I pronounce "two thousand eleven") round-up because, well, I just haven't. So here is 2011 in a nutshell:
Film Festivals: Sundance in January, Cleveland International FF in April (where I saw a most amazing documentary, Dying to Do Letterman), and Boston film festival in May.
Other travel: Participating in
izhilzha's wedding in October. Great fun meeting
kalquessa and
sarcasticval in person for the first time. Also entertaining telling people, when asked how Izhi and I know each other, "This sounds incredibly geeky, but we met on the Internet.") Also met one of Izhi's brothers, who asked me, "You're Felicia? The Felicia?"
Adoption: Geo and I embarked on our adoption journey. It started in March, when we attended an informational meeting. We've progressed one step at a time since then and have, as of Dec. 19, been approved. That does not mean we have a placement; that means we can go on the list. Now we need to finish our profile portfolio album and get the financing lined up. That will be our goal for this month.
Theater: I directed and was in our Easter production, "Mountaintop," and I was in a production of Our Town.
I continue to miss the PAC, though with less acuteness as I once had.
The new theater here started construction.
Family: My dad has had some health issues this year, and it's been very challenging. But he is slowly on the mend, and I'm hoping the parents can come visit, if not for my birthday, then maybe this spring. They haven't been to visit since last Easter.
My fannish brain continues to be fully occupied by the Brothers Winchester. In fact, I've been thinking recently what it is about Jensen Ackles that seems to have if not totally overshadowed, are the same underlying factors of my previous thespic infatuations.
Jan. 1 - I had looked forward to starting the new year with church service. But Geo was not feeling very well (chili and champagne don't mix, apparently), and it wouldn't have felt right for me to go to church at the beginning of the new year having left my husband at home. So we had a very quiet day. It was beautiful outside, very mild. I spent the day tackling some crochet challenges and revamping some project. Because of this, I didn't get done what I actually wanted to do this first day of the new year.
In the evening, however, Geo and I watched my Christmas present, the bluray of Meet Me in St. Louis.
Jan. 2 - Another quiet day. This morning was the Rose Parade, after which we went to see Hugo and then out to dinner. (FYI: Hugo is an amazing, heartwarming movie. I'll write about it in a different post.)
Today I'm back at work. It's very cold, and there were snowflakes in the air this morning. I don't expect anything to come of it, though.
I'm also in need of a new "celebration" icon. Any suggestions?
