I really loved hearing about your trip. A few of the things you mentioned doing were the same as when I visited NYC a few years ago (Liberty Island but not Ellis). Your observation about New Yorkers also matched my experience. I was with a group of 9 traipsing around, and we were more than a little "lost" at times, but people were *very* helpful. We got good restaurant recommendations in Chinatown, and help getting "unlost" when we ended up on the wrong subway while trying to get to Times Square. Right now my niece is living in NY and is currently in a short-run off-Broadway of "Angelina Ballerina". I don't think she'd want to live anywhere else!
