I feel very sad over the whole thing. She wasn't somebody I particularly admired, but she suffered so terribly, and I found Ryan O'Neal's devotion to her very touching.

Back in '82, when I was going down to NYC every weekend to hang out with my friends, we picked a place called Charlie's to have lunch one Saturday afternoon. We were gabbing a mile a minute when one of us glanced toward the door and noticed two new arrivals: Ryan and Farrah. She had no makeup on, and had her hair pulled back in a ponytail. Without the famous "do" and the makeup, I thought she was ordinary enough that she wouldn't catch anyone's eye on the street. But there she was, having lunch a couple of tables away from us.

I hope he can find some peace in knowing he did everything he could for her, and then some.
