Memed from [livejournal.com profile] tahirire

Tell me you want to play and I'll pick up to three of your fandoms. Then update your journal and answer the following questions:

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?

N3 news

For those who might be wondering about the futures of Numb3rs:

From this source:

Numb3rs (Fridays at 10/9c, CBS)
Issues: The show's episode order was chopped drastically to make way for newcomer Miami Medical. Creatively, the show's season finale felt like a good-bye, and series star David Krumholtz has already landed a gig in Ron Howard's IRS comedy pilot at Fox.

Considering that Nick and Cheryl (the show's creators) called the season finale "probably the last episode of the series," I think that's a pretty good indication that the show has run its course.

It was one of my favorites. I guess I'll be pulling out my DVDs and re-watching it this summer.
feliciakw: (Say What?)
What strange parallel universe have I stepped into? N3 people working on a CW show?

I mean, I know the CW is some sort of weird merged network relationship between CBS and Warner Bros., but to have N3 mentioned in the same sentence as SPN's network . . .

*looks around for a wormhole*

ETA: Against my better judgement*, I read the TV Guide synopses of the next two (last two) eps. (Or should I say eppes?)

Though no official announcement has been made, it does sound like N3 is being cancelled in March.

It makes me sad.

*Since when did I become so spoilerphobic that reading a TV Guide synopsis feels wrong? *think* Oh, right. Since I got to enjoy SPN totally unspoiled even though it had been on the air for 2.5 years.

So with tomorrow night being a new ep, I decided to cave and check out the promo pics that have been released for the ep.

Hey, gang. For those Still Life readers who watch N3:

In last night's episode, "Charlie Don't Surf," you know the girl who played the surfer's ex-girlfriend? Well, she looked really familiar to me, but I couldn't place her. I felt very strongly that she had been on SPN, and that she'd done a scene with . . . Jared. But Memory said that didn't feel quite right. No, she'd done scenes with Jensen. But for the life of me I couldn't figure out what character or which episode.

When I looked her up on IMDB today, everything fell into place:

She played Nona in Still Life.

So, for those of you who've been following my recaps, and who watch N3, surfer's ex-girlfriend was Nona.

Just to help give you the visuals to go with the recaps and transcripts.

Top Five?

From [livejournal.com profile] july_july_july, because it sounded like fun:

Sometimes it's ok to pimp yourself out. Post a list of your top five fic-favorites you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.

Wow. How do I chose only five? My first 'Net-published fic went up in 2000. This is like choosing your favorite child or something. But here they are, in order of fandom involvement:

1. All's Fair in Love and War (Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, no longer publicly available on the 'Net) After coming to the rescue of a woman in a tavern, Iolaus finds he must keep a sibling rivalry from getting out of hand. This was my first 'Net-published fic, in my first heavily involved fandom. And it was a hoot to write. Actually, it sort of wrote itself. I wrote it in a script format, with snarky editorial comments and dated cultural in-jokes and it just felt like an episode. It's also one of, if not the longest fic I've ever written. And it has the only truly successful fight sequence I've ever written in a story, imo. I've pondered posting it here; I've just never gotten around to it. If there's an interest, that might decide me.

2. Sandburg and Me/An excerpt from Act III, scene i of The Story of Ellison, Sentinel of Cascade (The Sentinel) The days I wrote these were days flowing with filk and honey. Okay, so maybe it's cheating to include two pieces in one entry, but they really are companion pieces of sorts. And again, they wrote themselves. I love it when a filk comes together.

3. Reciprocal Function (Numb3rs) My first foray into N3 fiction, this one, again, pretty much wrote itself. I'm very proud of this one, as I enjoyed exploring Charlie's reactions to Don's job-related injuries. Written mid-2nd season, iirc.

4. Inequal Expressions (Numb3rs) Pre-series fic? WT??? No, I don't make a habit of writing pre-series fic, but this one had to be done. My first time playing both sides of the same conversation.

5. What Am I Supposed to Do? (Supernatural) Again, it had to be written. I wanted to explore what day-to-day life would be post-NRftW. Even though this has been Jossed into AU oblivion, and we now know that Sam actually did do a lot of things I don't have him doing in this fic. And he didn't do some of the things I have him doing.

I might also include Dark Side of the Moon and The Song Remains the Same because these three are a trilogy of sorts. WAIStD? explores Sam's days, DSotM explores his nights, and TSRtS is after all of it, readjusting, you might say. But of the three, I like the first one best.

Honorable Mentions:

1. Said and Done (TS) An experiment in style, an exploration of relationship, a possible explanation for Jim and Carolyn's break-up.

2. Domestic Disturbance (N3) Because the ending surprised me as much as anyone.

3. Claddagh (N3) I've always loved the friendship dynamic between Don Eppes and his 2IC Megan Reeves. Imo, the show never did play that up enough. Here's how I think Don and Megan related to each other when no one else was looking.

4. Independence Variable (N3) Because a rescue scene in "Hot Shot" would not have gone amiss. In fact, I think they shot one that never made it to the final edit. I used a scene from another, never-will-get-written fic for this one. I was pleased with how well it adapted. (Btw, the ep, "Hot Shot"? One of my very favorites in that it's a character study of Don through Charlie's eyes.)

4b. Four Days (N3) Latent h/c tendencies? Who, moi?

5. Basium Angeli (SPN) It comes from the heart, from a real place. Can't really say much more than that.

I don't usually tag, but I'm curious as to what [livejournal.com profile] izhilzha, [livejournal.com profile] kalquessa, and [livejournal.com profile] kerravonsen have to say.
feliciakw: (Kevlar-clad Fedcakes)
Why, yes. Yes, there is. Not much, but it is there.

And here are the season premieres that merit special attention in our household (sadly, we missed the premiere of The Sarah Connor Chronicles. That's more Geo's show than mine. I'm just along for the ride. Still, Tivo didn't catch the season opener. Drat!):

The Unit – Sunday, Sept. 28, 10:00pm
Woo and hoo!!!! I had feared that this got the ax after the WGA strike. Then I had it confirmed by dodger_winslow, complete with information that Dennis Haysbert (aka Jonas Blaine) had gotten another gig. Which, there pretty much is no Unit without Jonas. But it's on CBS's schedule. Haven't done the research to see if Haysbert is back, but we'll find out this Sunday. Eep.

Pushing Daisies – Wednesday, Oct. 1, 8:00pm
Another "too brilliant for TV" show that thankfully was not killed by The Strike. This is more Geo's show, but I do enjoy it for the quirkiness. Plus, there's pie.

Numb3rs – Friday, Oct. 3, 10:00pm
This is my other "do not call me, do not talk to me, do not even look at me funny when I'm watching this show" show. I have ♥ed it since it first took to the airwaves, and it inspired in me an interest in Rob Morrow, which led to the rediscovery of what is arguably the best TV series in television history, Northern Exposure. But I digress. Numb3rs is love on so many levels for me, and having re-watched the season finale recently, I twinged all over again at where they left it (oh, the melancholy!) and can hardly wait to see how the Brothers Eppes are going to deal with the consequences of last season. Oh, Eppeses, I have missed you so.

CSI – Thursday, Oct. 9, 9:00pm
The one that started it all, in Vegas. Imo, this show has been hit-or-miss since season 6. They've still had some good eps, but it does not attain the level of squee (dancing around the living room in anticipation of a new ep. I kid you not) that it once did. Still, where they left it, and what they've got to deal with . . . GAH!!! [livejournal.com profile] izhilzha has a link to the promo posted in her LJ, and FLAILITY FLAIL FLAIL FLAIL. With flappy hands for good measure. I really hope this show leaves the airwaves while it's still good.

So go. Set up your DVR. There is much juicy TV goodness to be had.

In the meantime, is it Thursday yet?

At the request of my betas (because I live to serve my betas), I've added to my index page a link to the list of my Numb3rs fic.

The results of the third Numb3rs Awards are up, and in a 3-way tie, [livejournal.com profile] izhilzha's Sua Sponte won in the Gen H/C category.

Congratulations, mi amiga! 'Tis a wonderful bit of writing (to which I am particularly partial).
feliciakw: (Kevlar-clad Fedcakes)
So. The third round of N3 Awards is under way. And I've had four pieces nominated )

I'm just tickled that people enjoy my stuff enough to nominate it for fandom recognition. It's a nice little boost.

I need a celebratory icon.

The WGA strike is over. The Guild voted yesterday (by a whopping 92.5% margin) to lift the "restraining order" (read: strike), and all writers who were employed prior to the strike are to return to work today. (They still need to ratify the new contract, though.)

What does this mean? Well, [livejournal.com profile] izhilzha has posted in her LJ a link to TVGuide.com that gives a rundown of what will be coming back, for how many anticipated eps, and when. This delights me, as it means that I have:

1) 4-5 (I read somewhere 6?) more eps of SPN coming.
2) 5-9 more eps of N3 coming.

And as [livejournal.com profile] ficwriter1966 posted in her LJ, Jensen informed some folks that he's expecting to get back to work in "about a month." Woo and hoo! ([livejournal.com profile] ficwriter1966, if you read this, I hope you don't mind the link. I have a thing about citing my sources.)

Though I'm less excited about it, it also means that I have more eps of CSI coming. Sadly, the fate of The Unit is undetermined. But I think I can live with that.

For Geo, it means more eps of The Office.

So, yeah. I think I'm going through a pretty good time right now. Not as distraught about RL issues as I was a couple weeks ago, and this adds to the "good" side of the scales. Hallelujah!
feliciakw: (Say What?)
Have you ever noticed how much the words Wal-Mart and Voldemort sound alike? I think there's a connection there.

The Dread Pirate Wal-Mart )

I played the piano for church today. Geo assures me that I did fine, and several people expressed their gratitude, but it's been well on 15 years since I've played for an audience, let alone as an accompanist, and my hands were shaking so badly. On the up side, I was so nervous, I didn't feel the cut on my thumb. And today was the easy songs. Next week are the songs in 12/8 and 9/8 time that I'm going to have to dissect and re-count in 3's.

Random aside: [livejournal.com profile] izhilzha, would it not be totally awesome and canon-based if Don's sekrit math skill actually were music? It's already helped him crack one case.

For Bren, who wanted to hear my spoilery speculations )
feliciakw: (Default)
First of all, many thanks for the well-wishes on the new house and the sale of the old and the possible job leads. I haven't responded individually as I should, but each and every comment is appreciated.

Second of all, the house had "many" visitors today. The appraiser came this morning, and the survey people from the title company came this afternoon. I got a call from my realtor saying that he thinks the buyers will want to close this Friday. Say what????? Um, that's not happening. George won't be available until Saturday, and I don't have a power of attorney to sign for him. So. We'll have to have something signed on Saturday. Then my realtor says that the closing would be Monday or Tuesday. Again, um, no. Monday is a federal holiday, hence things will be closed. Tuesday, then. Sheesh. I know I've been concerned that the house wouldn't sell, but I still don't like feeling like I'm being pushed out.

I know I have 30 days to vacate once we close. It's in the contract, and in this area, it's apparently a common courtesy to include it in the contract. Still, if it's not my house anymore, it will be weird living here. I need to schedule the movers, both to come pack up the house and to drop off at the new house in Virginia. And I want to be present on both ends, to supervise both the loading and the unloading. I'm a control freak that way.

I'm just in this really weird sense of limbo right now. I'm already starting to miss the people at work. I really don't like good-byes all that much . . .

Plus, I received a notice that my auto insurance is overdue. Again, say what???? I mailed the payment last month. And they still haven't gotten it. So I made the on-line payment, but still. Grrrr . . .

In other news, maybe I'll post my mad ramblings regarding the season finale of Numb3rs. Seriously, it's really weird screaming at the TV set when there's no one to share your anxiety with.
feliciakw: (Default)
[livejournal.com profile] izhilzha and I were talking the other day about fandom equivalencies. We've often said that )

And in other news, apparently the last 10 eps of SG-1 are supposed to start airing on SciFi on April 6. So there ya go.
feliciakw: (Default)
So I was crashing around my old fandom, The Sentinel, today--seeing what of my fic is still on-line, stumbling across a list in the Cascade Library of everyone's first posted fics (mine was way back in May 2001), get getting sort of nostalgic about the whole thing.
